Course Description
What makes things move? Can you see sound? How does Earth change? In Mystery Science Labs, students become scientists as they investigate fascinating questions through hands-on experiments, engineering challenges, and scientific problem-solving answering questions like these and more.
Each week begins with a mystery question. Students will make predictions, design investigations, collect evidence, analyze results, and explain what they discover. Throughout the course, students will strengthen their understanding of the scientific method and learn how scientists use evidence to answer questions about the world around them while learning about STEM concepts outlined in the Next Generation Science Standards for this age group.
Students will prepare a hands-on science demonstration to share at the Harmony Showcase. There will be ways for both kids comfortable speaking and those not speaking to participate in the Showcase presentation.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
Use the scientific process to ask questions, make predictions, conduct investigations, analyze evidence, and draw conclusions.
Explain scientific concepts explored through hands-on experiments and models.
Communicate scientific thinking by creating and presenting a demonstration of learning.
Please dress for a potential mess and bring your own safety eyewear. All other materials will be provided.
