Social-Emotional Learning: Social Navigators

Ages 8–11

This engaging Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) class is designed specifically for homeschooled students ages 8–11 who want to build meaningful social skills in a supportive, inclusive, and neurodivergent-affirming environment.

There is no single “right” way to communicate, learn, or connect with others. Rather than teaching children to hide who they are, this class focuses on helping each student develop authentic relationships, confidence, and practical tools for navigating social situations.

Through games, collaborative activities, role-playing, and guided discussions, students will practice skills such as:

• Starting and maintaining conversations

• Understanding different communication styles

• Building friendships and repairing conflicts

• Recognizing emotions in themselves and others

• Setting and respecting personal boundaries

• Practicing perspective-taking and problem-solving

• Developing self-advocacy skills and learning how to ask for support

• Working cooperatively as part of a group

Our goal is not to change who children are, but to help them better understand themselves and others while building the confidence and skills needed to create positive, lasting connections.

Meet your Instructor:

Hanna Wright is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) who earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northeastern Illinois University. Hanna is experienced in working with children, adolescents, and young adults and has a special interest in working with children ages 4-10 y/o to help support their social and emotional growth. Hanna enjoys providing psychoeducation to children and their families to de-mystify mental health and encourage open communication among families.
