- Description
Are you a kid with a big idea? A dream bakery? A pet-sitting business? An art studio?
In this hands-on class, students will design and build their own real website using Wix — no coding required.
Over six weeks, students will learn how to turn their ideas into a professional-looking website for an imaginary venture of their choosing by exploring:
How websites are structured (Home, About, Services, Contact)
Basic design principles (layout, color, fonts, readability)
How to write clear, engaging website content for your audience
How to edit and customize a Wix template, adding components like buttons, images, animations, forms, etc.
How to publish and share their website
By the end of the course, each student will have a completed multi-page website they can proudly share with family and friends.
This class builds more than tech skills. Students practice:
Creative thinking
Clear written communication (Note: AI will not be employed in this course)
Visual design awareness
Problem-solving
Confidence presenting their ideas
Older students will be encouraged to explore more advanced features such as galleries, forms, branding consistency, and mobile optimization.
TECH/ REQUIREMENTS:
A fully charged laptop (Mac, PC, or Chromebook) with WiFi capability
(Optional but very helpful: external mouse)
Parent permission to create a Wix account (details provided before class)
To help class run smoothly, students should be shown ahead of time how to access their device’s network/WiFi settings so they can connect independently if needed (CCUU offers free WiFi)
No coding needed: This class uses Wix’s beginner-friendly drag-and-drop tools. It is perfect for creative kids, future entrepreneurs, kids who enjoy tech, kids who love design, students curious about how websites work
FINAL PROJECT:
On the last week, students will have the option to present their finished websites at the Showcase and explain their venture idea, their design choices, and what they’re most proud of.
