- Description
Our supervised Lunch/Freeplay hour gives kids a chance to relax and socialize while they re-fuel! At Harmony, we strive to ensure lunchtime is free from the stress of potential isolation and division that can unfortunately frequently accompany open lunch hours in school settings.
At Harmony, we ensure everyone has a seat at the table, and there is always room for one more!
As students finish up eating, the middle of this hour includes a brief "meeting"--our lunch meetings will provide time for news & announcements plus Harmony "housekeeping," but also brief "character" conversation in which we dialogue about a key component of living with civility in community, such as kindness, inclusion, consideration, character, integrity, and respect. Finally, we'll use this time to get to know one another better and break down social barriers through ongoing conversational icebreaker-type activities.
After our mid-lunch meeting, we'll go out to play whenever the weather allows! A short walk next door brings us to the Ketchup and Mustard Playground where kids can organize a game, climb, or just chill.
NOTE: Enrollment in an adjacent class is required for registration for Lunch/Freeplay Hour. Standalone Registration for Lunch/Freeplay without registration for a class is not permissible.
Harmony is nut-free due to both CCUU policy and attendance by students with life-threatening allergies.
Harmony kids are given time to wash hands before eating.
It weather is dry and over 20 degrees, we go outside to play. If weather is warm & pleasant enough to picnic outdoors, we do! PLEASE send your child with appropriate outdoor clothing as the weather turns--sometimes the changing seasons can be unpredictable or chillier than expected. Snow-pants are perfectly acceptable on very cold days. Cold kids are miserable kids. Thanks!
