- Description
How many elephants are there in our country? How long would it take you to count to one million? Fermi problems abound in this math enrichment class!
Named after physicist Enrico Fermi, Fermi problems challenge students to estimate solutions to seemingly impossible questions using logic, assumptions, and math reasoning. This class will provide all students with a chance to try out and grow their math skills including operations, fractions, measurement, and more.
The questions we explore together give the opportunity to stretch more advanced math students and reinforce skills for our younger math students all while giving real life examples of the "when will I use this?" question so often posed in math.
Prerequisite: It would be most helpful for students to have worked with multiplication before. No need for multiplication facts to be memorized!
