- Description
The focus of this class will be to learn to speak French through Total Physical Response Storytelling (TPRS)! Students should be come ready to engage actively in the telling and re-telling of simple (silly!) stories through listening and conversation, acting them out, playing games, & incorporating physical movement/sign language.
Ability to read is required, but our emphasis will be on listening and speaking.
By the end of class, students will be able to understand and re-tell a variety of simple short stories in French.
TPRS is a language instruction methodology that leans heavily on language acquisition principles that allow students to progress more quickly towards novel (unplanned) language production and communication. And it's a lot more fun than studying charts of verb forms!
Because an emphasis is placed on immersive language techniques, a positive attitude toward immersion is important. No experience/prior knowledge needed.
Between classes, students will be asked to listen to a recording of a variation of that week's story, practice re-telling their story aloud, and illustrate the story on a comic page.
Students will have an optional opportunity to present or display work at the Quarter 1 HCA Showcase on 10/17 at 1:15 pm.
